The scale of the planned event meant we had outgrown the original venue and so we moved down the road to Sandwich.
For the 2-day festival we were once again blessed with perfect weather but we also introduced some important guest speakers such as Steve Parrish, we had a couple of Barry Sheene’s original bikes on display and created a full programme of live music.
There were a lot more trade stands in attendance with further attractions for younger visitors. A central arena allowed owners to show off their machines, helicopter rides gave visitors a chance to see it all from the air and an excellent bar ensured no-one went thirsty during the Saturday night gigs.
In excess of 6,000 happy folk went through the gates. And we eventually managed to prise the Mayor off Valentino Rossi’s Ducati!
